Mary Ann Kennard nee Pink
She may have been a surprise to her parents, arriving just two months after they were wed! Her father was listed as a Soldier on her Christening record and the family was living in Boss Street, Horsleydown, Surrey, England. When she was five and her brother three, their father died suddenly in India which must have been a devastating loss to the little family left to fend for themselves. Fortunately Harriet married again and the two Pink children were absorbed into the ever growing King family with Edward as the head. At the age of 21, Mary Ann married Simon Kennard and began her own family. When they had three children, they packed up and moved to the other side of the world in the search of better opportunities. Five more children were born in their adopted homeland in New Zealand, including a set of twins in 1883. Mary Ann survived her husband's death by more than two years. Both were buried in Wallacetown.
Children of Simon and Mary Ann Kennard were William Pink 1870-1937, Thomas John 1872-1936, Harriet Frances Amelia 1874-1942, Mary Ann 1879-1949, James Edward Tait 1881-1963, Charles Walter Humphrey 1883-1971, Laura Jane Mary 1883-1965 and Albert Frederick 1885-1964.
